Walks Program

Join Peter on this scenic walk near the township of Glenbrook in the Lower Blue Mountains. The walk is to Lennox Bridge (which is the oldest surviving stone arch bridge in Australia) and spans Lapstone Creek. The walk takes in Chalmers Lookout and Marges Lookout and Lapstone Tunnel. It is on well-marked bush tracks with some stairs for that extra challenge. As the Tunnel is closed the walk is no longer a loop so we will return the same way. Please note this is only Peter's second walk as a Leader so your support is greatly appreciated.

Enjoy a late morning ride from Meadowbank to Marrickville: via Olympic Park along the Parramatta River, Flemington, Strathfield and Canterbury along the scenic Cooks River. You can cycle one way (20km) and depart from Marrickville Station, alternatively, return to Meadowbank (40km). We'll be visiting the renown Hellenic Patisserie for Greek sweet and savoury fare!  You can check out their website at http://www.hellenicpatisserie.com.au. This is a joint activity with the Bush Club.

Join me for a walk along the beautiful Deep Creek and up the hill through the bush to explore the 9-sided Baha’i Temple. We will finish by visiting Irrawong Waterfall and the Warriewood Wetlands. 

The story of a painter of luminous watch dials in Orange, New Jersey, as she fights for her day in court after falling ill with a mysterious disease. Cost: Adults: $32.38. Concession: $27.38. This walk is accessible by train and bus to the Central Coast. It is along five beaches (Patonga, Pearl, Umina, Ocean and Ettalong) and then parklands. There is a steep climb on a bush track from Patonga and then downhill on a fire trail and streets to Pearl Beach. There are extensive views, from the top of the climb, of the Hawkesbury River, Pittwater and Barrenjoey.  Another headland has to be negotiated before reaching Umina Beach and the long beach walk to the ferry wharf at Ettalong. We now enter suburban streets for a short while, passing under the Rip Bridge, before the parklands we follow to Woy Woy.

Join Denise (and Ed) on riding the bike paths around Olympic Park to Parramatta and return. We will start at West Concord and ride over to Parramatta via Newington and Olympic Park. The bike ride will be fairly flat but you will need your own bike and an ability to ride. The pace will be relaxed. Ed and Denise will be away from 18 July to 22 August so email Denise if you have any questions.

This is a training walk only where Ed and I will mentor those Club Members who are new to leading a walk or intend to put on a walk on the program this year. This walk was originally on the program but was postponed due to the rain. We will be covering topics such as legal requirements, how to choose a suitable walk, how to organise a walk and navigation. We will be bringing some bushwalking books along so you can choose a suitable walk for the new program or we can discuss any walks you would like to lead. We will be practicing our navigation on the Riverside Walk in the Lane Cove National Park. When you book please advise your membership number.

"The electric bloody chair! I'm told when that goes wrong they came out sizzling like a bloody steak". This wildly off-beat play is a stinging condemnation of state-sanctioned murder delivered with furious, macabre humour. Perhaps some of our theatre-goers will remember Martin McDonagh's play "The Lieutenant of Inishmore" as macabre; with bloodied body parts littering the stage. Cost: Adult: $38. Join us on this classic bush walk following bush tracks from Mt Ku-ring-gai to Berowra via Calna Creek and Benowie Walking Track. There will be the usual ups and downs and creek crossings but it is on well marked bush tracks.

Bookings for this walk will be taken from 1st September

This mid-morning walk will commence at Roseville Station (east side) via the Little Digger Track and a section of the Two Creeks Track to Lindfield Station. The walk will feature the best of early spring for the wildflowers. It is also a pleasant track after rain, as while the tracks can be a bit muddy, there are a number of pretty little waterfalls on Moores and Gordon Creeks which will be in good flow.

Join me on this city walk exploring the Botanical Gardens and Barangaroo and beyond. We will start at Town Hall and go through Hyde Park and around to Mrs Macquarie's Chair via the Botanical Gardens.  We will then follow the harbour around Circular Quay and Barangaroo.  We will then continue around Cockle Bay onto Anzac Bridge returning back to Town Hall.

Don’t be fooled by the short distance of the walk - it’s tougher than you think. We follow well marked tracks following Florabella Creek and onto Glenbrook Creek. The walk is essentially Warrinoo to Blaxland via the Valley and will take about 4 hours. Please note this will be an unsurveyed walk but we will have maps and won't get lost - I promise.

The location will probably be at the Sussex Hotel, Barangaroo.

Join us on this classic bushwalk following bush tracks from Thornleigh to Hornsby which is part of the Great North Walk. There are some creek crossings, some rocky sections and we walk through Blue Gums and finish the walk climbing the Depression Era Steps.
