We'll follow the route of the Bleichert Aerial Ropeway, which once transported shale rock from the mines of the Ruined Castle area across the valley to Katoomba. The thing only operated for a few months in 1889, before collapsing in a heap in the bush below. We'll start at Furber Steps, descend to the Scenic Railway, and then plunge down deep into the bush. We'll find dozens of rusty buckets, long bits of cable, and other mysterious relics galore. After crossing Causeway Creek, we'll return via the usual Ruined Castle Track and the Landslide. Parts are effectively off-track and some slopes are steep and slippery. A fairly big walk. Car pool from Strathfield.
