Socialgaine

This is one of 2 rogaining events which are usually held in urban surroundings and are generally considered to be a good introduction to the sport. For those of you unfamiliar with rogaining, it's a team sport (2-5 people) involving the use of a map and compass to find controls (worth points) within a specific timeframe (in this case 6 hours) and within a predetermined area (as per map issued on the day).  It's a great way to learn or practise navigation skills and bushcraft.  Socialgaines are usually held within semi-urban/semi-rural settings so the course is usually less challenging than in a completely bush setting.

This year's Socialgaine rogaine will be held on Sunday 22 November at Wangi Wangi in Lake Macquarie district, about 1.5 hours drive from Hornsby Station.  The event will start at 9:30am which means an early 6:30am departure by car from Hornsby Station in order to get there in time to register, obtain maps, plan routes etc. The good news is that it finishes at 3:30pm which means we should all get home in time for dinner unless you wish to linger for a swim after the event, weather permitting.

The entry fee for the Socialgaine is $38 ($27 concession) per person, payable to me beforehand, plus there will be a fuel levy if travelling in a carpool.
