Bleichert's ropey old Ropeway
Thursday Survey of 2 July 2015. We explored the remains of the Katoomba aerial ropeway that once carried oil shale rock, from the mines in the Ruined Castle area, out to the Scenic Railway area. It was a state-of-the-art example of German engineering, but it only lasted a few months, in 1889, before collapsing in a heap in the bush below! A nice little bush bash. Not quite as difficult or rugged as we'd feared. Watch out for it on the regular programme soon!
