Highlights of Bushwalking NSW General Meeting 21st May 2019
- Speaker from NSW Sport on considerations and benefits of encouraging children and young people to join our clubs. Several clubs have Child Protection Officers. Speaker mentioned that it will soon be mandatory for clubs to implement child safety standards if under 18 year olds participate in their activities. This is not just the physical safety or children.
- Speaker on the Duke of Edinburgh Award, also from NSW Sport, talked about the potential for clubs to partner with Award Units or form alliances with local schools. Child safety standards as per above would need to be considered.
- Sutherland Bushwalkers reported on their Adopt a Track project, which to date has cleared 35km of bush track in the Royal National Park. They have just been awarded a Commonwealth grant to buy further tools.
