There will be a bit of  an exploratory element, a large off-track component, and some (smallish) rock scrambles. We'll visit the cave too. It's a nice area, and will one day hopefully be part of an enlarged Gardens of Stone National Park. It's a long drive out beyond Lithgow, so it'll be an early start, with car pooling from Sydney.

    Details:

I am keen to do a 5 day full pack walk with Trek Tours Australia to a remote, amazing and seldom walked area to the north of the Larapinta Trail, Mt Giles. I have hiked the Larapinta Trail and have always wanted to go back and explore further.

I would like to do this as an independent trip but the logistics of water finding, getting to the start and from the finish, plus the best route to take in this little-walked area made me think Trek would be a more viable and relaxing option (We do carry the dehydrated food and personal needs, but Trek will do the cooking - breakfast, lunch, dinner - similar to a Willis' Walkabouts format)

This trip is for anyone who has experience carrying a pack for multi day hikes and wants to venture more remotely into the spectacular desert area of Central Australia. Mt Giles (1389 m) is in the Chewings Range, and is the third highest mountain in the Northern Territory. We will hike cross-country to the base of Mt Giles over 2 days then climb to the top as a day trip on the third day to see the spectacular views across to Mount Sonder, Ormiston Gorge and Pound, and the surrounding ranges. We then hike back out via a different route for the last 2 days.

For a detailed itinerary: Trek website: http://www.treklarapinta.com.au/LarapintaTrailTours/MtGiles.html

We need 8 people to make the trip happen, 3 spots already taken. Please RSVP and pay deposit by end of June. This is a combined trip with another bushwalking club.

Don't let the distance fool you, the walk will feel a little longer because it follows the coast from Watsons Bay to Rose Bay.

We will start the walk with a ferry ride and then walk to South Head and then onto Paisley Bay for swimming before visiting Vaucluse and Strickland Houses and finishing at Rose Bay for a cleanesing ale.

The walk is on tracks with some hills and some street walking but really that is an excuse to admire nice houses.

    Interested?   Then let me know.
